Times and Dates | Flexible
Length | 2 hour class
These private two hour classes are designed for complete beginners or people in the very early stages with their throwing (or if you’ve not thrown in a long time and are looking for a refresher). You will be guided through the fundamental techniques needed for throwing basic forms on the potters wheel, wedging clay and gain an understanding of how studio pottery is produced and the various stages of the process. At the end of the session you’ll be given a choice between a High Gloss White or Smooth Matt Back glaze for your pieces, we’ll then handle glazing and firing and contact you when they’re done.
These are fun classes for 1,2,3 or 4 people and will take place at the Malden Pottery, part of the Malden Centre in New Malden. They can be treated as a one-off experience or for more in depth teaching block bookings of classes can be made. Times and dates are flexible but subject to availability, Sunday’s are generally our most flexible day; please feel free to contact us prior to purchase to enquire about the timing of the class. Alternatively, once you have purchased a class via this page, we will be in touch to arrange a time that is convenient for you.
These classes can be for adults, families or children and they make a wonderful gift for anyone open to new artistic experiences.
What’s included:
-All Materials
-All tools and equipment are provided
-Firing and glazing the work is included, you’ll be given a choice of a High Gloss White or Smooth Matt Black glaze, though if you want you may book another session to return and glaze your pieces yourself. (Please let me know on the day.)
Things you may want to consider ahead of the day:
-Wear Clothes that you don’t mind getting splashed - all materials wash out easily though.
-We prefer our students to wear trousers or shorts rather than skirts because of the practicalities of throwing at a potter’s wheel (skirts can be a little physically restricting for this activity) but if you’re happy then we’re happy.
-Arrive with short fingernails - this is very helpful when throwing and long fingernails can really get in the way of your enjoyment of the process.
-Please plan your journey to the studio so you can arrive on time. Classes cannot go on beyond the allocated time and we want you to have the maximum amount of enjoyment from the class.
